Впервые я оценил базилик, когда попробовал блюда грузинской кухни. И когда волею судьбы оказался совладельцем нескольких соток приусадебной земли, сразу же стал его выращивать.
Достоинство базилика неоспоримо: прекрасный аромат зелени и цветов, сохраняющийся и в сушеном виде. Как приправа зелень базилика используется практически для любых супов, мясных и рыбных блюд, салатов. А какой прекрасный чай получается, если в обычную заварку добавить щепотку базилика. Маринованным овощам он придает особый вкус и аромат.
Агротехника его несложная. С осени определяю место его выращивания, светлое и теплое, перекапываю грядку с добавлением ведра перегноя на 1 м2. В середине апреля вновь перекапываю (земля у меня глинистая, тяжелая), закрываю пленкой и оставляю в таком состоянии на 4_5 дней. Затем делаю бороздки, посыпаю их древесной золой, обильно поливаю, сею семена, присыпаю их сухим компостом или перегноем и вновь закрываю пленкой на высоту лежащего на земле кирпича. Всходы появляются через 10-15 дней. Периодически поливаю, поддерживаю почву во влажном состоянии. После установления стабильно теплой погоды пленку постепенно снимаю. Если ожидаются заморозки, снова укрываю грядку той же пленкой или лутрасилом. В конце мая -начале июня растения рассаживаю по всей грядке, выдерживая расстояние между ними около 10 см. В июне подкармливаю 1 раз гуматом калия, затем с интервалом 7-10 дней -раствором коровяка.
Вырастают мощные разветвленные кустики, высотой до 70 см, кроны их сливаются и вся грядка имеет привлекательный вид. Зацветает базилик в середине июля. Свежей зеленью мы пользуемся с июня, а срезку для сушки начинаем с начала цветения и проводим до осенних заморозков. Срезаем гибкие верхушки побегов вместе с листьями, бутонами и цветками и измельчаем ножом. Храним высушенный в тени базилик в жестких банках из-под чая до следующего урожая.
